BWTS Service Work Packages: Inclusions, Exclusions and Interfaces
Updated
A service work package should identify both included tasks and interfaces with other parties. Clear exclusions prevent a calibration attendance from being mistaken for a complete process overhaul, independent biological test or regulatory survey.

Key takeaways
- Instrument/component task schedule
- Materials and reporting deliverables
- Vessel and third-party responsibilities
- Additional-work and unresolved-finding process
Specify positive inclusions
List instruments, components, maintenance activities, methods and reporting deliverables. Identify supplied materials and crew support. A phrase such as annual BWTS service is a commercial heading, not a substitute for an equipment-level schedule of work.
Identify technical interfaces
Separate vessel isolation and permits, component supply, specialist repair, independent sampling/analysis and flag/class involvement where applicable. Name the responsible party for each interface. Tasks may be coordinated within one programme without implying that one provider performs every activity under the same accreditation or authorisation.
Control discoveries during attendance
Agree how newly identified faults and additional work are authorised. Record findings, recommendations and unfinished tasks in the close-out package. A defined exclusion should not conceal a safety-relevant observation; reporting an observed problem and authorising its repair are separate decisions.
Illustrative procurement scenario
A calibration attendance identifies a separate dosing fault. The original order remains a calibration work package; the new finding is documented and a repair scope is proposed for approval. This prevents two opposite errors: concealing the observation because it was excluded, or undertaking additional equipment changes without authorisation simply because the technician is already onboard.
Sea Clean service and quotation requirements
Sea Clean services all EC BWTS manufacturers and variants, including annual instrument calibration, calibration certificates, diagnostics and spare-parts support. Sea Clean is an authorised Headway agent; other manufacturers are serviced independently.
Include the following with the email request: Required tasks, expected deliverables, third-party interfaces and commercial boundaries. Multiple vessels in the same area or along an efficient route can be assessed for shared mobilisation. Prices, component availability and attendance arrangements are stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Are exclusions evidence of limited brand coverage?
No. They define the ordered job and responsibilities. All-EC-system service coverage does not mean every possible task is included in one attendance price.
