Sister-Vessel BWTS Service: Standardisation Without Configuration Errors
Updated
Sister vessels can share service planning and procurement formats, but their installed BWTS components should be compared individually. Replacement instruments, retrofit changes and software revisions can create important differences within an apparently identical fleet.

Key takeaways
- Current vessel-by-vessel configuration
- Equivalent tasks and consumables
- Exception and modification register
- Separate results and post-service updates
Build a configuration comparison
Use vessel/IMO, BWMS model and serial, analyser identity, component revisions and relevant modifications. Verify the comparison against current nameplates and records. A common shipyard design or fleet spreadsheet is not sufficient evidence that every vessel still carries the original equipment.
Standardise the common work
Group genuinely equivalent tasks, compatible consumables and reporting fields. Preserve vessel-specific methods, due dates and findings. Shared planning can reduce repeated administration and support coordinated travel without allowing one vessel's calibration result to stand in for another instrument's measurement.
Manage exceptions explicitly
Flag equipment differences before ordering shared kits or dispatching technicians. Allocate parts and reference materials to named vessels and identify any separate procedure or competence requirements. Update the fleet record after service so standardisation remains based on actual installed configurations rather than historical assumptions.
Illustrative procurement scenario
Two sister vessels originally had matching analysers, but one received a replacement during an earlier repair. Their current nameplates show different consumable requirements. The fleet retains common purchasing and report formats while separating the affected supply lines. The comparison prevents historical similarity from being used as a substitute for present equipment identity.
Sea Clean service and quotation requirements
Sea Clean services all EC BWTS manufacturers and variants, including annual instrument calibration, calibration certificates, diagnostics and spare-parts support. Sea Clean is an authorised Headway agent; other manufacturers are serviced independently.
Include the following with the email request: Sister-vessel configuration matrix, common tasks, exceptions and proposed attendance sequence. Multiple vessels in the same area or along an efficient route can be assessed for shared mobilisation. Prices, component availability and attendance arrangements are stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Can one spare kit be specified for all sister ships?
Only after component identity and compatibility are established for each vessel. Sister-ship status alone is not a technical interchangeability approval.
