BWTS Maintenance Contracts: Performance Measures Beyond Response Time
Updated
A useful BWTS service contract measures completed technical outcomes as well as response time. Rapid acknowledgement, technician arrival, fault resolution and documented close-out are different events and should not be presented as one performance metric.

Key takeaways
- Separate response and completion milestones
- Defined dependencies and clock basis
- Repeat-work and documentation measures
- Comparable fleet cost and outcome review
Define observable milestones
Record enquiry acknowledgement, evidence review, quotation issue, mobilisation, task completion and report delivery separately. State the clock basis and dependencies. A response-time target should not imply guaranteed global attendance where flights, visas, access or equipment availability determine the route.
Track quality and repeat work
Measure unresolved findings, repeat attendance attributable to missing information, correct parts identification and completion of the agreed instrument schedule. Interpret the data with context: an additional visit may be technically justified rather than evidence of poor service.
Review fleet-level value
Assess shared travel, administrative effort, due-date compliance and completeness of vessel records. Keep actual received RFQs, accepted orders and completed jobs distinct. Sea Clean's coordinated attendance approach can reduce avoidable mobilisation, but savings should be evaluated against a comparable scope and real vessel schedule.
Illustrative procurement scenario
A contract records rapid acknowledgement but repeated delays in obtaining complete instrument information. Separating acknowledgement, evidence readiness, attendance and close-out shows where time is actually lost. The fleet can improve its request process rather than attributing every delay to technician response. The measurement supports a practical corrective action instead of a misleading single average.
Sea Clean service and quotation requirements
Sea Clean services all EC BWTS manufacturers and variants, including annual instrument calibration, calibration certificates, diagnostics and spare-parts support. Sea Clean is an authorised Headway agent; other manufacturers are serviced independently.
Include the following with the email request: Fleet service objectives, proposed performance measures, vessel coverage and reporting frequency. Multiple vessels in the same area or along an efficient route can be assessed for shared mobilisation. Prices, component availability and attendance arrangements are stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Is the fastest response always the best maintenance outcome?
No. Evaluate whether the provider completed the required work with appropriate evidence, compatible materials and manageable repeat-attendance risk.
