BWTS Service During a Port Call: Critical-Path Planning
Updated
A short port call requires a work sequence based on equipment access, isolation, parts readiness and operating demonstrations. Technician availability alone does not establish that the required service can be completed within the vessel's working window.

Key takeaways
- Shutdown and operating-task dependencies
- Parts and reference readiness
- Crew support and access permits
- Priorities, completion evidence and fallback call
Identify task dependencies
Separate tasks requiring shutdown from tasks requiring water flow, power or an operating demonstration. Identify component removal, calibration, reinstatement and verification dependencies. The order of work matters: a task waiting for an unavailable operating condition can delay several otherwise straightforward activities.
Prepare before boarding
Complete equipment identification, parts selection, reference-material planning and access arrangements before mobilisation. Allocate crew support and permit responsibilities. Where uncertainty remains, show it in the plan instead of assuming that diagnostic decisions, procurement and repair can all occur within the same short attendance.
Define priority and fallback
Rank tasks by applicable deadlines, operational importance and available conditions. Identify what evidence is required for each completed task and how unfinished work will be recorded. An alternative port call may be necessary for a specific activity; the plan must not label incomplete work as a completed annual service.
Illustrative procurement scenario
A replacement component must be installed before an operational check, while another instrument can be assessed during the shutdown. Sequencing those tasks in advance reduces unnecessary waiting. If the vessel cannot provide the final operating condition, that check remains an open item. Efficient scheduling does not justify describing an unavailable demonstration as successfully completed.
Sea Clean service and quotation requirements
Sea Clean services all EC BWTS manufacturers and variants, including annual instrument calibration, calibration certificates, diagnostics and spare-parts support. Sea Clean is an authorised Headway agent; other manufacturers are serviced independently.
Include the following with the email request: Task list, port window, operating availability, parts status and priorities. Multiple vessels in the same area or along an efficient route can be assessed for shared mobilisation. Prices, component availability and attendance arrangements are stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Can calibration and repair be combined in one call?
Yes, where equipment condition, methods, parts and the working window permit. Repair and post-repair calibration still require distinct task records.
