Annual EC BWTS Service: Port-Call and Shipyard Work Packages

Updated

Prepare EC BWTS annual calibration, certificates, consumables and service around the real shipyard or port window, equipment access and due dates.

Request EC calibration, a certificate, spares or fleet service

Key takeaways

  • Confirm actual equipment access, not just ETA/ETD.
  • List instruments and due-date basis.
  • Prepare compatible supplies and current procedures.
  • Agree bounded close-out documents.
  • Use route savings without delaying required work.

Vessel-call duration and equipment-access conditions

ETA and ETD identify a call, but not necessarily uninterrupted access to equipment. Cargo activity, crew duties, ship movements or isolation restrictions may affect the work. State the actual period available for each task and how joining is arranged.

A yard period can offer different repair opportunities but may still have conflicts and unavailable operating modes. Do not assume that more days in port mean every process function can be demonstrated. Confirm access, equipment condition and required support before attendance is agreed.

Instrument inventory and calibration schedule

List each TRO analyser and supporting instrument by tag, maker/model and serial. Give last calibration, due-date basis, applicable procedure and required reporting. This schedule defines standards, supplies and certificate scope more precisely than 'annual BWMS service'.

Record known faults separately. An instrument may need repair or cleaning under its applicable procedure before a calibration can be completed. If a task is provisional until condition is checked, show that in the quotation instead of promising a complete certificate in every circumstance.

Parts readiness and technical-document requirements

Send nameplates, part references, quantities, current drawings and relevant maintenance records. Confirm compatible consumables and required standards, including availability and handling. Missing supplies or unknown methods can force repeat attendance even when the ship's window was suitable.

For process or protective equipment, identify the separate technical scope and competence required. The presence of a calibration technician does not mean every electrode, rectifier, dosing or gas-handling task is included. Coordinate the appropriate parties where needed.

Service deliverables and close-out documentation

Agree which documents should follow: instrument calibration certificate, service findings, parts record, unresolved-fault list or separately arranged testing report. Each document should describe the actual work and its limitations rather than make a generic complete-system compliance claim.

If the equipment cannot be demonstrated or a required method cannot be completed, retain that limitation and the next action. A service window can still be useful without falsely claiming that every function passed or that discharge acceptance has been established.

Fleet routing and deadline constraints

Add other fleet ships, their equipment, dates and access conditions. Same-area or efficient onward attendance may reduce avoidable mobilisation cost. Each vessel remains a distinct technical job with separate instrument evidence and findings.

Do not postpone necessary work to create a convenient route. Use the earliest due date and any abnormal condition as constraints, then compare alternative calls. A cost-efficient plan is one that meets requirements and avoids repeat visits, not one that simply chooses the lowest travel estimate.

Technical work package and quotation requirements

Sea Clean provides annual instrument calibration, calibration certificates, TRO measurement support, consumables, spare parts and technical diagnostics for all EC BWTS manufacturers and variants. Quotation records comprise vessel/IMO, system configuration, instrument tags and serial numbers, required tasks and deliverables, last calibration, due dates, port/berth, ETA/ETD and agent. Supporting documentation includes nameplates, current instrument schedules and relevant service records. Separate equipment, component, diagnostic and reporting requirements enable a defined vessel work package and clear allocation of responsibilities.

Sea Clean can often reduce attendance costs through coordinated fleet planning. Multiple vessels in the same area, or sequential ship-to-ship attendance along an efficient route, can share travel and mobilisation expenditure. Route assessment considers ETA/ETD, instrument due dates, work duration, access, transport and consumable requirements. Vessel-specific labour, parts, findings and calibration certificates remain separately identified; savings are assessed for the actual schedule rather than expressed as a universal percentage.

We service all EC BWTS systems, all manufacturers and variants. Sea Clean is an authorised Headway agent; other manufacturers are serviced independently. Attendance planning, component compatibility and reporting requirements are specified in the vessel work package. Other-brand OEM authorisation, laboratory accreditation and regulatory approval are not implied.

Frequently asked questions

Is a shipyard always better for calibration?

Not necessarily. Available equipment condition, operating/isolation opportunities, access and the required method determine suitability.

Can a port visit combine calibration and parts work?

Yes where the scope, compatible supplies, procedure, competence and window are agreed. Keep different work results clearly identified.

Can Sea Clean issue an annual calibration certificate?

Sea Clean provides annual BWTS instrument calibration and calibration certificates. Each certificate documents the vessel and instrument identity, calibration date, method, reference identification, results, adjustments and applicable limitations. As-found and as-left results distinguish initial condition from post-intervention performance. The next-due basis follows the installed-equipment requirements; drift, repair or abnormal findings may require earlier work. Instrument calibration documentation is distinct from BWMS type approval, class/flag approval and biological D-2 compliance evidence.
