Does a CLX 09991 Annual Pack Mean One Bottle Lasts a Year?

Updated

No. The CLX-XT manual describes an annual pack containing multiple indicator sets and a buffer bottle. Its annual supply estimate does not permit an activated indicator to remain installed for a year.

Editorial decision guide: Does a CLX 09991 Annual Pack Mean One Bottle Lasts a Year?
Sea Clean editorial guide. Apply the installed instrument's current manual and vessel procedures; this illustration is not an approval or an operating instruction.

Key takeaways

  • Check the actual pack configuration against the installed model.
  • Count indicator life from activation, not carton receipt.
  • Buffer and indicator have different replacement criteria.
  • Operating hours and priming affect the supply estimate.
  • Quote complete packs with model and usage information.
  • Investigate early depletion before changing formulations.

What the annual pack contains

For the CLX-XT covered by revision 5.0, section 4.3 describes four 125 mL indicator sets and one 500 mL buffer bottle under catalog 09991.

Treat this as the specified pack configuration for that document, not a promise that every supplier's similarly labelled kit has identical contents.

The activated indicator has a separate clock

The same manual requires indicator replacement on a 90-day basis when kept in the powered cooling chamber, even if liquid remains.

Write the activation date on each bottle. The date on an outer carton cannot tell a watchkeeper when a bottle was mixed or how long it has been installed.

The buffer is not another indicator

The buffer controls the sample pH and has a different preparation and usage basis.

The manual describes it as ready to use and capable of lasting up to a year under the stated ballast application assumptions. That is not an instruction to retain contaminated, depleted or incorrectly stored buffer.

Why a year of supply may run out sooner

Section 11.1 bases the annual estimate on a 60-second cycle and up to 24 hours of total operation per month.

Continuous use, commissioning work and repeated priming change consumption. Record operating hours and bottle levels alongside calendar replacement dates instead of ordering solely by the word annual.

Specify the quotation without ambiguity

Identify the analyser model, serial number, current reagent reference and required number of complete packs.

Ask the quotation to identify contents, expiry information and handling instructions. A request for twelve months of reagent without the operating profile is not a sufficiently defined quantity.

For an identified 09991 installation, use the product enquiry to define complete packs rather than an assumed year of continuous use. Request a model-specific 09991 pack quotation

Escalate unexpectedly short life

If a fresh set empties early or gives poor results, separate consumption from degradation.

Review the cycle setting, priming history, leakage, cooling power and paired checks before blaming the formulation. Sea Clean can review the consumable and instrument work together; an attendance date and compatible components are arranged separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave an activated 09991 indicator installed for twelve months?

Not under this CLX-XT manual: its activated indicator is replaced at least every 90 days in the powered cooling chamber.

Does a full bottle extend the replacement date?

No. Remaining volume does not remove the activated reagent's age limit.

Is the annual estimate for continuous operation?

The cited manual uses intermittent ballast duty, including a stated monthly operating-hour assumption.

What should the purchaser ask the supplier to identify?

The exact reference, pack contents, applicable instrument, expiry information and handling requirements.
