CLX Reagent Inventory: Linking Storage Locations, Batches and Vessels
Updated
A reagent inventory should link product identity and batch/validity information to the actual storage location and intended analyser. A purchasing total does not show whether usable material is available onboard when the vessel needs it.

Key takeaways
- Reference and inventory unit
- Batch/validity and use status
- Storage location and custody
- Usable allocation versus quarantined stock
Define inventory units clearly
Separate sealed packs, individual components and material already issued for use. Record reference, quantity unit, batch information and relevant dates. A list showing three kits may be misleading if it combines complete packs with partly used component sets.
Track location and status
Distinguish shore warehouse, agent custody, onboard store and installed/in-use material. Apply the actual product's storage and handling requirements. Transfers should preserve identity and condition records; moving a bottle between locations does not reset its validity or activated-life basis.
Use the register for replenishment
Compare usable allocated stock with the vessel's demand and delivery opportunities. Flag uncertain or quarantined material separately instead of counting it as available. The register supports purchasing decisions but does not replace the analyser manual or a technical assessment of questionable material.
Illustrative procurement scenario
The purchasing system shows stock in an agent's warehouse and another quantity already issued onboard. The inventory register keeps those locations and use statuses separate. The superintendent can then see which usable material is actually available for the next operation, rather than treating every historical purchase as current unopened onboard stock.
Sea Clean service and quotation requirements
Sea Clean services all EC BWTS manufacturers and variants, including annual instrument calibration, calibration certificates, diagnostics and spare-parts support. Sea Clean is an authorised Headway agent; other manufacturers are serviced independently.
Include the following with the email request: Vessel stock register, analyser models, material status and replenishment schedule. Multiple vessels in the same area or along an efficient route can be assessed for shared mobilisation. Prices, component availability and attendance arrangements are stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Should partly used packs count as complete spare kits?
No. Record the remaining components and their status explicitly so purchasing and service planning use the actual available inventory.
