BWTS Replacement Sensors: Electrical and Measurement Interfaces
Updated
A replacement sensor must match the installed measurement duty and relevant interfaces. Matching the measured variable alone does not establish compatibility with the receiving control system, process connection or required configuration.

Key takeaways
- Model/revision and measurement duty
- Electrical, signal and process interfaces
- Documented replacement compatibility
- Calibration, verification and register update
Specify the complete identity
Record manufacturer, model, revision, serial and current part reference. Include the measured variable, range, units and installation position. Retain the current data sheet or wiring/interface documentation so the proposed replacement can be assessed against the actual arrangement.
Review interface requirements
Identify the relevant supply, signal or communication interface, connections and configuration requirements from the documentation. Consider process materials and mechanical fit where applicable. This is a specification exercise, not an instruction to rewire equipment or alter protective logic without authorised procedures.
Define installation evidence
Include configuration, applicable calibration and functional/interface checks in the work order. Record removed and installed identities and update the register. A supplier's statement that a sensor measures the same parameter does not replace evidence that the installed system receives and interprets its output correctly.
Illustrative procurement scenario
A proposed replacement measures the same variable and range as the installed sensor but has a different output arrangement. The order identifies that difference before purchase and defines the appropriate technical review. Matching the measurement label alone would leave configuration or interface work undisclosed until installation.
Sea Clean service and quotation requirements
Sea Clean services all EC BWTS manufacturers and variants, including annual instrument calibration, calibration certificates, diagnostics and spare-parts support. Sea Clean is an authorised Headway agent; other manufacturers are serviced independently.
Include the following with the email request: Sensor identity, interface documentation, installed duty and replacement-service requirements. Multiple vessels in the same area or along an efficient route can be assessed for shared mobilisation. Prices, component availability and attendance arrangements are stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Is a sensor with the same measuring range a direct replacement?
Not necessarily. Supply, output, protocol, connections, materials, configuration and applicable requirements may differ.
