Ship Electrical Installation: Writing a Complete Work Scope
Updated
A complete ship electrical installation order covers the supply circuit, cable route, supports, penetrations, equipment interfaces and acceptance evidence. Purchasing an appliance or panel does not purchase its integration. Define design responsibility separately from installation labour so the vessel receives a documented system rather than an isolated connected component.

Key takeaways
- Duty and supply information
- Design versus installation responsibility
- Containment and penetration allocation
- Test plan and drawing revisions
Establish the design inputs
Provide the operating duty, supply characteristics, load information and proposed location. The responsible designer assesses capacity, protection and environmental suitability against the applicable rules. Existing spare breaker space is not proof of spare electrical capacity. Include changes to emergency arrangements or essential services in the review rather than treating them as incidental wiring.
Price physical interfaces explicitly
Allocate cable containment, foundations, penetrations, access equipment and structural work. Identify who supplies glands, terminals, labels and approved sealing components. Distinguish owner-supplied equipment from contractor-supplied material and agree the checks on receipt. This exposes omissions that otherwise appear only when the installer reaches an incomplete interface.
Define completion by evidence
List installation inspections, applicable electrical tests, functional checks and document revisions. Specify the operating conditions needed for the demonstration and who accepts each result. Where authority or class involvement is required, include the appropriate submission and attendance responsibility. An invoice marked installed should not replace a recorded technical handover.
Illustrative procurement scenario
An owner buys a new workshop machine with a suitable nominal voltage. The installation survey identifies a longer cable route, a bulkhead transit and revised distribution documentation. These become distinct order lines before mobilisation, avoiding an assumption that the machine price included all vessel-side work.
Sea Clean electrical work and personnel enquiries
Sea Clean supplies electricians for vessel installation, repair and project support, with electrical personnel hire and technical crewing enquiries also welcome. The proposal defines the work, competence, supervision and any required specialist or approved-provider involvement. Attendance, personnel availability and commercial terms are stated for the specific assignment.
For this enquiry, include: Equipment specification, location, available drawings, load/duty, route constraints, supply responsibilities and required acceptance documents.

Frequently asked questions
Does supplying equipment include installation engineering?
Only if the contract expressly includes it. Name the designer, installer and party responsible for verification rather than assuming one purchase order covers every role.
